5 Can't Miss Events in Theatre, Art, and Film This Weekend in Dallas: November 11-14, 2021

Soul Rep Theatre opens their 21st season with Shakin' The Mess Outta Misery by Shay Youngblood. This dynamic play will have a 3-day only run this weekend: November 11-14, 2021, at the Pavilion at Dallas Heritage Village. This heartwarming and heartfelt play tells the story of a young black girl's coming of age in the South in the 1960s. Daughter, the main character and 25-year-old narrator whose mother died when she was very young, was raised by women in the community, some blood related, some not. SHAKIN’ THE MESS OUTTA MISERY explores the dynamics between Daughter and the colorful women who shaped her life. It is also a testament to life in the South for black women. Can't make it this weekend? Shakin' The Mess Outta Misery will also have be broadcast virtually beginning December 1, 2021.

Don't miss the final three performances of The Merit System by Edwin Sanchez at Teatro Dallas. Teatro Dallas' debut performance at the new black box theatre space in the Latino Cultural Center, The Merit System is also the Texas debut for playwright Sanchez. A comedic exploration of class and the cost of assimilation within the Nuyorican community, this delicious period piece is set in the late 70s and centers around a young man working his way up the social ladder and an unlikely friendship that grounds him and brings him back to his roots. November 11-13, 2021 at 8 pm.

Museum of Memories is open for a limited time. Museum of Memories is a collection of art installations centered around positivity, creativity, and childhood imagination, developed by Texas native artist, Steffi Lynn. Inside the gallery, you’ll see a variety of rooms and murals to explore. Tickets include 60 minutes of unstructured time to explore and play inside each installation. Experiences are open Friday-Sunday through December.
